I live in California where we are experiencing a historic drought. There has never been a better time to talk about how entrepreneurship and innovation can advance water efficiency and solutions. This is where ImagineH2O shines. They host business plan competitions for water entrepreneurs, distribute cash prizes and provide an accelerator program that connects promising technologies with real buyers. It is a win-win ecosystem of water stakeholders, and it is definitely what we need now.
To date, Imagine H2O has focused on technology in the areas of Water Efficiency, the Water-Energy Nexus, Wastewater, and Consumer Innovation. 2014 is all about Food & Agriculture. This latest sector is critical as agriculture uses over 80% of California’s developed water supply.
Go Blue with Water-Saving Tips
Here are some simple and fun ways that you can go blue and be part of the water solution:
- Turn off the water while brushing your teeth and shaving
- Ladies, use dry shampoo or baby powder on your hair
- Install a low-flow toilet and shower head
- Only do full loads of dishes and laundry
- Try the Light Wash setting on your dishwasher. It works so well!
- Use drip irrigation
- Replace your lawn with drought-tolerant, native plants like wildflowers and succulents
- Implement water harvesting solutions like a rain barrel
Contact your local water district as they often offer rebates and financial incentives for many of the above steps.
