Saving 300 Acres in 30 Days

Heart of Green is proud to sponsor 300 Acres, an opportunity to save a pristine piece of the Amazon rainforest and its people. Allow me to introduce Natalie Villalobos, an inspiring member of the Google Earth Outreach team. She recently met Quichuar healer Flavio Santi and learned that he had only 30 days to save 300 acres of his homeland in Ecuador. The land is slated to be sold, divided up, deforested, and mined for gold. The 300 acres is sacred to the Amazanga tribe and actually has the name “Forest for our future children.”

Natalie was moved by Flavio’s story and realized that she was in a position to use modern technology to help. Enter the 300 Acres site, which presents an opportunity to be an Avatar in real life and save Pandora-like forests and indigenous peoples. Where is our flying raptor when we need it?  The price to preserve the rainforest is $70,000. If the tribe can show progress towards meeting this goal by April 5, they will likely buy more time to gather the remaining funds. Natalie has raised a remarkable $25,000 in two weeks and has tremendous forward momentum.

I've known Natalie for awhile and I'm amazed at her commitment and dedication to everything she's involved with including this project - especially during SXSW Interactive. While a lot of people went there to get sufficiently drunk and promote themselves, she was dedicated to reaching as many people as she could with 300acres using Square on her iPhone to raise money as efficiently as possible.

I'm continuing to think of anything else I can do to help promote this great cause but had to drop by this blog when I heard of your incredible $2,000 donation. Keep up the great work on this blog too. :)
