A Gorgeous & Green Night

I want to thank all of the people who attended the Gorgeous & Green party and supported modern eco design and Global Green. It was truly a glamorous green night with over 650 guests in attendance and over $300,000 raised to advance the green rebuilding of New Orleans, green affordable housing, and green schools. Thank you!

Highlights:

Eco-minded celebrities included Leonardo Di Caprio, Salma Hayek, Orlando Bloom, Gael Garcia Bernal, Mia Maestro, Lukas Haas, and Kevin Connolly from Entourage (one of my favorite shows, I'll admit it).

Who Was There: 
The green glitterati guests included Mayor Gavin Newsom, Jerry Brown (just sworn in as California’s Attorney General), co-chair Zem Joaquin from EcoFabulous, Global Green President Matt Petersen, Jared Blumenfeld the director of SF Department of the Environment, Roger Barnett the CEO of Shaklee, Larry Brilliant the head of Google.org, Susie Tompkins Buell, surfer Jeff Clark, Vanessa Getty, Bill Green from VantagePoint Venture Partners, Jordan Harris the founder of OzoCar, Tom King the President & CEO of PG&E, Gina Pell from Splendora.com, Tom Stroik from the Clift Hotel, Eric Corey Freed from organicARCHITECT, Charles Marsala the Mayor of Atherton, Thomas Van Dyck from RBC Dain Rauscher, Chris Paine the Director of Who Killed The Electric Car, and cleantech expert Joel Makower the founder of Greener World Media and GreenBiz.

After Salma Hayek welcomed the crowd, the father of green design William McDonough delivered a rousing speech. Welcome to San Francisco McDonough & Partners and congratulations on your new office downtown!  Pictured here are Zem Joaquin, Bill McDonough, and Orlando Bloom. I highly recommend Bill McDonough's famous book Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things. It changed my life and is one of the best.

The Eco-couture Fashion Show featured one-of-a-kind eco-creations by local well-known designers including Margaret O'Leary, Del Forte Denim, Julie Chaiken, Cari Borja, Lily Achatz, Christina Hurvis, and Lilja. Linda Loudermilk showed one of her Luxury Eco gowns made of bamboo and sustainable chiffon. These designers all accepted the challenge to create a unique look that was green in every way. They rose to the occasion and employed bamboo, sustainable silk, organic cotton, organic wool, hemp, soy and reclaimed materials to wow the guests along the catwalk. Levi’s premiered their brand new Levi’s Eco Jeans line for men and women with much fanfare.

Speaking of fashion, many people asked me about my dress. It was a light green gown by Linda Loudermilk in sustainable silk with vintage lace and reincarnated beading. Fellow vice-chair and eco-crusader Amber Marie Bently was also wearing Linda Loudermilk. Newsflash: Linda is in the process of launching the first Luxury Eco store on Melrose in Los Angeles. The VIP Lounge was decked out with vintage-is-the-ultimate-eco art deco antique furniture from Sarlo Wick in San Francisco. 

VIP guests were treated to deluxe Eco Gift Bags containing goodies such as John Masters Organics, Endangered Species Chocolate, Numi Tea sets, In Fiore body balms, Ecoist purses, organic cotton tees, and Green Zebra guides.

Robert Craymer debuted his hot RC Green furniture line in San Francisco.  Robert is the in-demand green designer from LA who will be outfitting the “Green Rooms” at the Golden Globes, Sundance, and the Oscars.

The Ecofabulous Design Space showcased the best of modern sustainable design for the home under the master direction of Aaron Mutscheller (New Lime Organic). The beautiful eco bedroom was furnished by Berkeley Mills and the new Spring Store.

A sparkling ring by Kirsten Muenster was snatched up in the silent auction. Kirsten is the famous eco-jewelry designer who makes one-of-a-kind planet-friendly necklaces and rings that are drop dead green gorgeous.

A feast of delicious organic food was generously provided by Whole Foods (my home away from home). There was no shortage of organic beverages thanks to Square One Vodka, the Redwood Room, Organic Vintners, Oronoco Rum, and Hint water.

Guests were pampered at Sustainable Spa Stations provided by Kamalaspa, Juice Beauty, and the zen International Orange.

Event design firm Sillapere went all out and transformed the Bently Reserve into a gorgeous green oasis using an array of sustainable solutions including reincarnated materials, recycled votive candles, LED lights, and organic flowers.

Celebrities arrived in Prius cars courtesy of the new hybrid limo service PlanetTran. A sexy Tesla Roadster electric sports car greeted guests on the green eco carpet (courtesy of Bently Prince Street).  A highlight for me…when I returned to the Clift Hotel the next morning, a row of PlanetTran shiny black Priuses were waiting in front of the Clift and covering the entire valet area. It was a beautiful sight. Move over gas-guzzling limos, the hybrids are here.

The After Party went down at my friend Sunwoo Hwang’s not-even-open-yet club Vessel which is pretty ridiculous. Even though there was a construction saw in the middle of the dance floor (next to the tree), it was fabulous. I predict smashing success for Sunwoo.
