Who needs the Emmys when there are the EMAs? The star-studded Environmental Media Awards
is one of my favorite eco-glam events of the year. These green "oscars" honor films and TV
shows with environmental themes. The EMAs
are hosted at the Ebell Theater in Los Angeles by the nonprofit Environmental Media Association.
And the winners are…
An Inconvenient Truth - Best Documentary Film
Ice Age: The Meltdown - Best Feature Film
The Simpsons, "The Bonfire Of The Manatees" - Best
TV Episodic Comedy: The episode centers
around the magnificent and endangered manatees. Let’s just ignore the fact that
the Simpsons apparently bbq the manatees at the end…Hi Dan.
Boston Legal, "Finding Nimmo" - Best TV Episodic Drama
The Wonder Pets, "Save The Tree" - Best Children's
Animated Television
MTV’s Break The Addiction - Best Reality Television
Maroon 5 - EMA Futures Award
Red Hot Chili Peppers - EMA Missions in Music Award: All of their
tours are carbon neutral and their CDs use Tree-Free paper!
Being somewhat of a green geekette, I love the EMA Green
Seal Awards. Production studios, movie sets, and agencies win awards for being
green in their daily ops. You can see the eco criteria here. A great roadmap for any org that wants to go greener. Lots of winners this year, a good sign!

Toyota and Lexus had a major presence and pledged to have 11 hybrids
models on the market by 2010. According
to Toyota’s
Chief Environmental Officer Dian Ogilvie, “We've set a goal of one million
hybrids sold by 2010.” Detroit, are you listening?
Most memorable line for me – “if you help to plant a seed
(i.e. help a cause or a person, Maroon 5 in this case), you just never know
what it’s going to grow into.”
